Rocca Maura: A cooperative winery in the heart of the Gard
Wine-making expertise linked to history
Since 1922, the Rocca Maura cooperative winery has been a key player in the Gard winegrowing landscape. Located in Roquemaure, it is the fruit of the work of generations of passionate winegrowers, united by their desire to promote their terroir and produce authentic wines. Over the decades, our cellar has preserved its ancestral know-how, while adapting to technical developments and the expectations of wine lovers.
Since its creation, our winery has brought together committed winegrowers, the bearers of a tradition where quality and respect for the vine are at the heart of every wine. Today, we perpetuate this heritage with the same will : putting our passion at the service of our different cuvées.
Roquemaure, an exceptional terroir between Provence and France
Nestled between Avignon and Orange, the town of Roquemaure occupies a strategic position in the history of wine. Located on the right bank of the Rhône, it benefits from an exceptional terroir, shaped by centuries of winemaking traditions. Soils of rounded pebbles, clay and sand provide the perfect balance for growing vines and producing wines that are both powerful and elegant.
Roquemaure is not only a production area, it's also the historic birthplace of Côtes du Rhône wines. As early as the 17th century, its port on the Rhône facilitated the wine trade, contributing to the renown of the surrounding vineyards. Even today, our cooperative cellar perpetuates this heritage, highlighting the richness of Gard viticulture through wines that appeal to wine lovers and connoisseurs alike.
When you choose a Rocca Maura wine, you're doing much more than tasting a Lirac, a Laudun or a Châteauneuf-du-Pape. You're immersing yourself in the history of a terroir where tradition and passion come together to create authentic, elegant cuvées.
Our wines: the authentic expression of Gard terroirs
Lirac, an exceptional appellation within our cooperative winery
Lirac is a viticultural treasure of the Gard, an appellation d'origine contrôlée that shines for the diversity and quality of its wines. Located on the right bank of the Rhône, this appellation is marked by a unique terroir, composed of rolled pebbles and clay-limestone soils, giving its wines great aromatic complexity and power on the palate.
Lirac's deep, structured reds reveal aromas of ripe fruits, spices and garrigue. The wines have a natural elegance and remarkable ageing capacity, ideal for accompanying roasted meats or dishes in sauce.
Lirac's whites, often overlooked, are real gems. Their freshness and complexity make them refined wines with floral and fruity notes, perfect for sublimating fish and seafood.
As for Lirac rosés, they combine generosity and balance, offering aromas of red fruit and citrus with a lovely roundness on the palate. Gourmet and elegant, they are perfect for summer meals.
At our cooperative winery, we put all our expertise into making Lirac wines. Our winemakers work each plot with the utmost care, harvesting grapes at perfect ripeness to extract the very best. Each vintage reflects our commitment to producing authentic wines worthy of the appellation's prestige.
Our other appellations
- Laudun: freshness and elegance in reds
Recently elevated to the rank of Cru des Côtes du Rhône, Laudun is distinguished by its fine reds, with silky tannins and fruity notes. Elegant wines, perfect to accompany refined cuisine.
- Tavel: the only appellation dedicated to gourmet rosés
The only appellation exclusively dedicated to rosés, Tavel offers powerful, structured wines of great aromatic intensity. The wines of this appellation are distinguished from classic rosés by their depth and complexity. Their vinous character makes them perfect for the table, capable of sublimating both Mediterranean cuisine and spicy dishes.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape: a new ambition for Rocca Maura
Since 2024, we have the honor of making wines under the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation for the first time, a mythical name in the world of Côtes du Rhône. This recognition marks a milestone in our history, testifying to our ongoing commitment to promoting the great terroirs of the Gard and Rhône Valleys.
A land of exception, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is renowned for its powerful, complex red wines, made from a diversity of grape varieties and benefiting from a unique terroir of rolled pebbles that store up the sun's heat for optimal grape ripeness. This terroir, combined with our cooperative know-how, enables us to offer cuvées with great aromatic depth, balancing intensity and elegance.
Producing Châteauneuf-du-Pape at our winery is a challenge we take up with passion and exacting standards. We select the best plots and work with precision to preserve all the richness of this emblematic appellation.
With this new production, Rocca Maura affirms more than ever its desire to offer exceptional wines, faithful to the identity of each appellation, while remaining accessible to lovers of fine wines. A winegrowing adventure that has only just begun, and that already promises some wonderful discoveries!
